Privacy policy

Kevton Technologies is a computer shop and repair workshop based in Nairobi, Kenya. We are the data controller for the information described on this page, which means we decide what is collected and what it is used for.

The Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya) is the law that applies to how we handle personal data.

We only ask for things we need in order to do the thing you asked for. We do not buy data about you from anyone and we do not build a profile of you for advertising.

When you place an order

Your name, phone number, delivery address, any note you add for the rider and your email address if you give one. Your email is optional at checkout. We also keep a record of what you ordered and what it cost.

When you book a repair

Your name, phone number, the device and what is wrong with it, plus your email address if you give one.

When you ask for a callback or a build quote

Your phone number and what you are asking about. A build quote also records the parts you selected.

When you create an account

Your name, email address, an optional phone number and your password. We never store the password itself. It is put through a one-way hash, which means we cannot read it and neither can anyone who obtained a copy of our database. We also record the date you agreed to our terms and privacy policy and which version you agreed to.

If you save a delivery address to your account we keep the name, phone number, address and directions you entered.

When you subscribe to the newsletter

Your email address and nothing else.

• To fulfil your order or repair. We ring you to confirm every order so a phone number we can reach you on is not optional in practice.
• To keep a record of the sale. Invoices and receipts have to say the same thing later that they said on the day.
• To let you sign in and see your own past orders and repairs, if you chose to create an account.
• To send the newsletter, if you asked for it.

We never collect card details, because this website does not take payments. There is no card form and no payment gateway anywhere on this site. You pay on delivery or at the shop and that transaction happens in person or over M-Pesa, not through this website.

If you pay by M-Pesa, that payment is processed by Safaricom under their own terms. We see the confirmation, not your PIN or your account.

We use a small number of cookies. None of them are advertising cookies and none of them track you across other websites.

• kevton_cart and kevton_wishlist: the items in your basket and your saved list. These hold product references and quantities, nothing about you. Every price and total is recalculated on our server when the basket is shown and again when the order is placed so changing them only changes what you see.
• kevton_customer_session: set when you sign in so the site knows the session is yours. It cannot be read by JavaScript.
• kevton_customer: holds only your display name so the header can greet you without a round trip.
• kevton_admin_session and kevton_login_challenge: used only by shop staff signing in to the admin.

You can clear these in your browser at any time. Clearing them will empty your basket and sign you out.

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for marketing. It is seen by:

• Our own staff, in order to fulfil your order or repair.
• A courier, when you have chosen delivery. They get the name, phone number and address needed to bring it to you and nothing else.
• Our hosting and email providers, who process data on our behalf in order to run the site and send messages such as a sign-in link.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it of us.

Order and repair records are kept for as long as we need them to support the sale and to meet our accounting and tax obligations.

Your account is kept until you ask us to close it. Deleting an account removes your sign-in details and saved addresses. It does not delete the record of orders you have already placed, because those are the shop’s own business records. They simply stop being linked to an account.

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya) you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it or stop using it for a particular purpose. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time.

Ask by phone, in person at the shop or by email at info@kevtontechnologies.com. We will need to be reasonably sure you are who you say you are before we act on a request.

If you think we have handled your data badly and we have not put it right, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya.

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant and you hold an account, we will tell you.
